Madeline Handy is a third year Microbiology major at the University of California, Davis. She is part of the University Honors Program, the Research Scholars Program in Insect Biology, and is the Financial Chair for Prytanean Women's Honor Society. Madeline is a research intern in the Vannette Laboratory and is currently working on her own project analyzing the microbiome of the Valley Carpenter Bee. Madeline has also worked as an intern for the Mayor of Davis, CA and helped create a Respite Center for the homeless community in Davis. Madeline plans to combine her passion for scientific research with a career in public service as she believes more scientists need to be involved in politics and policy making decisions. After graduation, she hopes to perform research with a government agency such as the Center for Disease Control and Prevention or the Food and Drug Administration. Madeline is originally from San Luis Obispo, CA.
