Maria Oliveira is a rising senior at the University of Connecticut-Stamford, pursuing a major in history and a minor in mathematics. As President of the UConn Stamford Student Government Association and a member of the Honors Student Leadership Board, she seeks to give back to her campus, improve the student experience, and engage with the community. Maria's interest in history stems from her desire to understand the world and international affairs. Through her studies and research, she has sought to understand US foreign policy and the roots of foreign nations and cultures. She believes that her interdisciplinary liberal arts education offers crucial perspectives necessary for being an effective public servant. After graduating, she plans to attend law school and pursue a career with the Department of State. In her free time, Maria enjoys singing opera and baking pies. She is proud to call New Canaan, CT, her home.
