Nitan Shanas is a third-year student at Rutgers University - Camden majoring in Psychology, Urban Studies, and Economics and minoring in Ethics. A native of Israel, Nitan immigrated to the states in 2009 and has been living in Cherry Hill, NJ since. Nitan is deeply passionate about helping underserved and vulnerable populations; particularly persons experiencing homelessness. He works at a local homeless shelter as a Service Navigator where he supports clients in obtaining monetary benefits, mental health services, employment and housing. On campus, Nitan facilitated several awareness campaigns including Hunger and Homelessness Week and Rutgers Sleepout for Homelessness (which garnered increased attention about the topic and raised over $6000 for a local homeless shelter). Nitan is also the Vice President of the Rutgers-Camden chapter of College Democrats, an Undergraduate Associate at the Rutgers Eagleton Institute of Politics, a Newman Civic Fellow alumnus, and a Bonner Foundation scholar. After graduation, he plans to pursue a Master's in Public Administration with the eventual goal of joining the Department of Housing and Urban Development in Washington, D.C.
