Jaeger Held is a rising senior at Gettysburg College, majoring in History and minoring in Civil War Era Studies, Public History, and Peace and Justice Studies. He works as an undergraduate research fellow at the Civil War Institute and serves on the editorial board of the Gettysburg College Journal of the Civil War Era. Jaeger is a board member of the nonprofit organization Our Montana and he co-authored a study on the 1876 Battle of Powder River for the American Battlefield Protection Program of the National Park Service. He also served as a volunteer field researcher for the U.S. Geological Survey and as Montana's youngest delegate to the 2020 Democratic National Convention. His academic interests focus on the American Civil War and the American West during the 19th century.  He has identified and placed marble headstones from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for American soldiers who were buried in unmarked graves. In summer 2021, Jaeger is serving as a Brian C. Pohanka intern at Harpers Ferry National Historical Park and received a Frederic Dewitt Justin '38 Fellowship to study casualties of the U.S. Army during the American Indian Wars between 1849 and 1898. After graduation, he aspires to an advanced degree and public service career in the field of public history. In his free time, Jaeger enjoys studying military history and participating in living history events. He calls southeastern Montana home.
