John Boland is a rising senior at the University of Notre Dame, majoring in Political Science. John is an active member of Notre Dame's Native American Students' Association, where he has advocated for closer ties between his University and the local Potawatomi tribe., His research on their history has been published in Accomplice, a magazine sponsored by the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies. He also serves as the Head Advising Fellow on campus for the college access nonprofit Matriculate, works as a Parliamentary Intern for the Scottish National Party Member of Parliament Dr. Lisa Cameron, and last summer worked as a Legislative Intern for U.S. Senator Mark Warner. His academic interests include Native American affairs and the impacts of education in addressing structural poverty and injustice. He hopes to complete a law degree and pursue a career defending Native sovereignty and advocating for Native rights in policy. John is originally from Herndon, Virginia.
