Joshua Fang (he/they) is a student at Rice University pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematical Economic Analysis and Social Policy Analysis with a minor in Data Science, with an expected graduation date of May 2024. Outside of the classroom, Josh is heavily involved in grassroots organizing to promote nonpartisan youth civic engagement at Rice and in Houston. Currently, Josh serves as the President of Civic Duty Rice, which they represent within the RICEngaged coalition of Rice University and the GenHTX initiative of Houston in Action. Previously, Josh served as a 2021-2022 Texas Civic Ambassador with the New Politics Forum of the Annette Strauss Institute for Civic Life at The University of Texas at Austin. Josh also served as one of the two main organizers of the 2022 Houston Youth Voters Conference. Combining their analytical and interpersonal competencies, Josh plans to pursue a Ph.D. in Economics/Public Policy and a research career at a scientifically rigorous research institution or a government agency to inform policymaking and resource allocation in Washington, D.C. Josh is interested in studying domestic poverty and inequality through the lens of public economics, specifically by evaluating American social safety programs. In their free time, Josh enjoys dancing, doing acroyoga, and drinking matcha lattes.
