Monet Cook is a rising senior at Howard University, majoring in International Affairs and minoring in Biology. Her interests are focused on health disparities in marginalized communities with a focus on global health. The COVID-19 pandemic, coupled with the ongoing climate crisis, continues to expose so many inequities in our healthcare system, and communities of color are often those most affected by these inequities. This past summer, Monet was a research intern for Verily Life Science (Google), as a part of their Wastewater team, where she learned more about the benefits of testing for infectious diseases via wastewater as it eliminates many testing biases. This upcoming summer, Monet is traveling through Europe and Brazil on a self-designed research project to learn more about health equity and how different healthcare structures are working to eliminate racial and gender health disparities. Pending graduation, Monet plans to attend law school to obtain her JD. During her free time, she enjoys swimming, reading, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.
