Charles Petrik is a rising fourth-year student at the Clark Honors College at the University of Oregon, majoring in Global Studies and Geography with a concentration in Geographic Information Science. On campus, Charles is the dedicated leader of the United Nations Association at UO and an active volunteer with Students for Indigenous Rights and Environmental Justice in Bolivia, advancing his desire to work internationally. His academic interests focus on how to quantify human rights and advance them systemically, specifically at multilateral scales that can promote mutually beneficial global policies and norms. This summer, Charles will work in Columbia with the Alcaldía de Medellín, gaining experience in technological, social, and cultural development in the city while applying some of his mapping skills. Eventually, he aspires to work in public diplomacy, either through the Department of State or a non-profit. But first, he plans to serve in the Peace Corps and obtain a graduate degree in International Studies.
