Phi Beta Kappa Recognizes Five Outstanding Associations at 47th Triennial Council

WASHINGTON, DC, August 3, 2024 — As part of its 47th Triennial Council, the Phi Beta Kappa Society recognized five outstanding alumni associations – Atlanta, Austin, Kentuckiana, Puget Sound, and Richmond – for their work to engage members in life-long learning and represent Phi Beta Kappa in their communities. The awards, presented once every three years, are accompanied by a small monetary prize to help the honored associations further their important efforts.

The award winners each reflect a commitment to growth and inclusion. The Society praised the Atlanta Association for building a deep bench of talented leaders and adding a “monthly mingle” to its roster of member activities. The Austin Association earned recognition for their success in transitioning their leadership, an awards program honoring local teachers, and their scholarship program hosted in partnership with a local nonprofit. The Kentuckiana Association is exploring new communications opportunities to expand outreach to its members and is solidifying its deep roots in community by holding events with well-known local ΦΒΚ members.

The Puget Sound Association has seen great success with its young professional programming, collaborates with local chapters through its many undergraduate and graduate scholarships, and continues to recognize outstanding organizations with its widely recognized Pathfinder Award. The Richmond Association has taken great care to rebuild the organization, focusing on inviting the community to participate in programs on areas of local interest and highlighting local arts and science activity through media.

“The dedication and innovation demonstrated by these five associations highlight the vital role they play in engaging our members and promoting the values of Phi Beta Kappa,” said Phi Beta Kappa Secretary and CEO Frederick M. Lawrence. “Their efforts in community engagement, programming, and leadership development are truly commendable, and we are honored to recognize their exceptional contributions.”
