Phi Beta Kappa Recognizes Six Outstanding Chapters at 47th Triennial Council

WASHINGTON, DC, August 3, 2024 — As part of its 47th Triennial Council, the Phi Beta Kappa Society recognized outstanding chapters on six college and university campuses – Davidson College, Gettysburg College, Drew University, Mercer University, Iowa State University, and SUNY Geneseo. Recipients of this cycle’s Outstanding Chapter Awards have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to fostering an environment of inclusive excellence, building visibility among their campus communities, and making the most of key relationships on campus to elevate the arts and sciences

The awards, presented once every three years, are accompanied by a small monetary prize to help the winners further the chapter’s work to recognize excelling students and represent the liberal arts on their campuses.

The Davidson chapter stands out for having garnered support and visibility for its chapter; the Gettysburg chapter is recognized for its extensive 100th anniversary celebration; the Drew chapter excels in having cultivated a steady cadre of resident members; the Mercer chapter built a renown liberal arts lecture series; the Iowa State chapter worked to build visibility through events like the Visiting Scholar lecture; and the SUNY Geneseo chapter makes significant contributions to a campus culture that elevates the arts and sciences.

"It is a privilege to recognize these outstanding chapters for their unwavering commitment to the values of Phi Beta Kappa,” said Frederick M. Lawrence, the Society’s Secretary and CEO. “Their innovative programs, strong campus presence, and dedication to inclusive excellence have profoundly impacted their institutions. We deeply appreciate their steadfast commitment to elevate the liberal arts and sciences on their campuses and inspire new generations of students."
