February 11, 2025 - The Phi Beta Kappa Society is a steadfast and nonpartisan voice championing arts and sciences education – including robustly-funded scientific investments – as an essential resource for shaping meaningful, productive, and engaged lives that contribute to thriving communities.
Federal investments in research and innovation are a cornerstone of American leadership in scientific inquiry. Proposed cuts to research funding grants through the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation undermine the pursuit of knowledge that benefits students on campuses across the country and strengthens all our communities. Deep cuts to any part of university funding can create dangerous ripple effects across the curriculum, cause widespread harm to higher education institutions, and significantly impact wider communities who rely upon them.
The Phi Beta Kappa Society believes that support for the arts and sciences is essential to a thriving democracy. We urge our members to protect funding for research and education, ensuring that the nation has the resources needed to advance and discover knowledge for the benefit of all Americans.
